5 Tips for Moms to Save Time and Prep for the Upcoming Work Week

Some days, being a mom is just plain hard. Between work, kiddos, cooking, cleaning, managing a household, paying the bills, etc. etc. etc….It often just feels like there will never be enough time to get it all done.

Today, I’m sharing the 5 time saving hacks I use to prep and get ready for the upcoming work week. These 5 weekly prep tasks might seem simple, but they save me a ton of time, money, and chaos when I get them done before starting each week.

Sunday is always my prep day. On Sundays, I try to prepare as much as I can to get ready for the upcoming school and work week, so that I don’t have as much to do when we are in the midst of all the crazy during the week.

So, if you’re ready to get your week started on the right track, here are my 5 time saving hacks to prep for your week.

Time Saving Hacks #1-Grocery Pickup

Guys…if you are still going to the grocery store…in person…kids in tow…you need to get with it sister and do some grocery pickup. Seriously, life changing.

I use Walmart grocery pickup. The grocery stores are a little bit limited in my area (sadly, no Aldi or Kroger here) but I have found our Walmart to be pretty cheap, and they actually do a pretty good job with the grocery pickup and selection.

Grocery pickup is super convenient and it’s FREE. It saves me probably $50 every time we order groceries. I don’t know why exactly…maybe because of less impulse buys, or just getting a better price comparing them online…but either way, I consistently spend less by doing grocery pickup than I do if I actually go to the grocery store.

Not to mention, it saves a ton of time (I probably save 2 hours a week) and a lot of headache not having to deal with my little one wanting everything he sees up and down the aisles.

It’s really easy to use. You just download the app, get on the app and choose your groceries, choose your pickup location and time, then pull up to the pickup area and have your groceries loaded into your car. Super fast and easy.

Walmart also offers grocery delivery, where they’ll bring the groceries right to your house for you. So, if I’ve had an especially busy weekend or am feeling particularly lazy, occasionally I’ll even choose delivery. Although, there is a delivery fee if you choose this route, so for my budget’s sake…I typically just choose to do pickup.

So yeah…if you haven’t tried grocery pickup, I highly recommend that you try it. You can save $10 off your first order with Walmart grocery pickup here.

Time Saving Hacks #2-Meal Plan

As I’m ordering my groceries, the second thing I always do is meal plan for the week. Rather than randomly choosing groceries and ingredients, I have found that I save a ton of time and money by planning out our meals for the week, and then ordering only what we need for those meals.

Weekly meal planning not only saves me time and money, but also makes me less likely to pick up fast food and really reduces the amount of extra food that is sitting in my cabinets or in my freezer not getting eaten or being thrown out.

Time Saving Hacks #3-Prep Lunches

Another thing I always do on Sunday is prep our lunches for the week.

We eat a good bit of sandwiches around here, because…let’s be honest, sandwiches are about as cheap as it gets for lunches. They’re also super quick and easy to make, and store well in the fridge for the whole week.

We do like to mix it up a little bit. So we may have ham, turkey, peanut butter & jelly, chicken salad, etc. That way we don’t burn out on the same type of sandwiches every week.

I’ll occasionally make some type of wraps or quesadillas, or even homemade lunchables with cut up deli meat, cheese, and crackers.

So, what I do is on Sundays I go ahead and make 5 sandwiches for my son and 5 for me, wrap them up and put them in the refrigerator. That way, they’re ready to grab and throw in a lunchbox with a drink, fruit, snacks, whatever and lunch is ready.

This saves me SO much time and stress on those busy weekday school mornings since it’s one less thing to have to worry about.

Time Saving Hacks #4-Lay Out Clothes for the Week

The fourth time saving hack is laying out clothes for the week.

On Sundays, I like to go ahead and pick out all 5 outfits for my son and for me and lay them out for the whole week.

I know this seems like such a simple thing, but it really saves me a ton of time and makes things go so much smoother on busy mornings.

Time Saving Hacks #5-Write / Review Weekly Goals

The last thing I like to do before starting the week is to sit down with my calendar or planner and write or review my goals for the week.

I’m such a fan of goal setting, and as I’m sure you’ve heard before…you’re much more likely to accomplish your goals if you write them down.

So I always take some time on Sundays to write down any big events we coming up, errands I need to run, budgeting goals, personal goals, business goals…anything I want to get done this week.

This really keeps me on top of what I want to accomplish and helps me stay focused on the most important tasks.
